Offering different solutions for each area and generally containing hyaluronic acid, these agents are commonly used for the facial area which involves the distinct signs of aging. Hyaluronic acid is normally present under the skin. Fillers are used to eliminate skin aging and irregularities in the facial contour, obtaining a more dynamic and brighter appearance.

Fillers are used for eliminating wrinkles independent from facial expressions; correcting scars; filling in traumatic defects; and making facial parts more prominent. For aesthetic reasons, it is mostly used for lip augmentation; elimination of deep lines around the mouth, vertical wrinkles above the lips, wrinkles in the neck and upper chest, and dorsum of the hand; making the cheek area prominent; and obtaining the required volumes in the chin, nose, etc.

Fillers take effect in the course of administration. The duration of action varies from 6 months to 18-24 months.

Filler administration may be performed for all ages and in any season.

Fillers are not used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, people under 12 years, those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, and for active infection and inflammation site.

The sites of filler administration and liposuction are determined. Appropriate photographing is performed. It is recommended that anticoagulants are discontinued 1 week prior to the procedure.

Any type of anesthesia is not required. The procedure is performed by microinjection method in the respective areas based on the individual’s needs. The commonly used fillers contain local anesthetic agents. These agents inhibit pain formation during and after the procedure. The procedure takes 1-30 minutes.

It is recommended to avoid washing the face, putting on makeup, massaging, bending down and lying for 2-3 hours after the procedure. One may get to work immediately. The procedure instantly takes action. Plenty of water intake is recommended for the next 2 days; the injected material absorbs water and takes more action.

Redness and ecchymosis may occur in the administration site after the filler administration, as in the botox administration. Injection related pain is anticipated to be more due to the high content; however, most fillers contain local anesthetics and minimize the pain effect. Granuloma (subcutaneous beads) formation is a rare side effect. The body recognizes these materials as foreign bodies and creates cysts. However, this condition is treatable.

Fillers are limited with the areas they are used; in other words, they are administered locally, are not distributed in the body, does not affect any organ, and does not result in any systemic effect. FDA-approved (USA Food and Drug Administration) botox has been widely used for over 20 years all over the world.

Finally, such applications should be performed by specialist doctors.
