This is the surgery type to be performed for patients who do not like his ear size and shape This usually starts in childhood. Generally, patients who are uncomfortable with prominent ears have this surgery. In addition, ear size or earlobe problems can be solved with this surgery. It can be applied to one or two ears.

There may be two reasons for the prominent ear. The first is, the gap between the ear and head may be big. The other is that the upper fold on the ear is not developing sufficiently.

It is recommended that the surgery be performed in childhood, in preschool period. Thus, the ears will be corrected before the child begins to school, and there will be no loss of self-esteem in the child by being teased at school. This surgery can be applied to adults at any age.

The patient is asked about what he doesn’t like about his ears, and it is examined whether his expectations can be achieved. The ear structure is examined and the problems that cause the prominent ear are determined. Then, appropriate drawings are made and necessary photographs are taken.

It is often performed under local anesthesia. It takes about 1 hour. Incisions are placed on the back the ear. Scars are not visible because they are behind the ears. Corrections are made in the ear structure and permanent sutures are placed. If necessary, cartilage and / or excess skin is removed. Appropriate dressing and bandages are placed. Drain is not applied.

The patient may go home after the procedure. After 2 days, the bandages are opened and special ear bandages are given. Showers can be taken after this day. Slight swelling and bruises may appear in the ears. In about 1-2 weeks, swelling starts to disappear. The person may go to work after day 2.

It is administered on the second day after surgery. It can be supplied as a tennis bandage or a sports bandage. It is necessary to wear it all day (for 24 hours – 2 weeks) for 2 weeks after application. For the next 2 weeks, it will be enough wearing when sleeping. So it is used for a total of 4 weeks.

Postoperative complications are uncommon. Swelling, bleeding, infection, and bruises may occur on the ear. The most common complication is the appearance of a prominent ear again. By applying the recommendations of your doctor, you can minimize the risks.

The result is permanent and helps improving self-esteem and sociability.
